04 Nov 09 Does Droid Does Enough?

You tell me.

This guy had earlier ported the Android emulator to his G1 and demonstrated the features of Android 2.0.
Watch the video below:

I’m slightly amazed by the slider sequence for phone locking. It might be a bit difficult for those who does not own the phone to unlock it.

Motorola Droid is the first Android phone to sport the Android 2.0 software and it does promises a few things that the iPhone does not do.

  • Google search now with voice, enable you to search by speaking to your phone.
  • Different ways to communicate with a contact, call, sms, facebook etc, not particularly new, but convenient.
  • Android Market has changed!
  • Verizon Visual Voicemail, only available for Verizon subscribers and requires monthly subscription.

The following video shows them:

Another review on the Motorola Droid :

Some from the review worthy of highlights:

  • Droid is thinner than Samsung Moment
  • Looks like a modern minimalist, not plasticky
  • Google Maps Navigation is a main attraction
  • Facebook integration to contacts
  • YouTube videos doesn’t go full screen due to larger than usual screen size
  • Camera settings have gone much better, making the camera better, and with flash! (I’m not really sure if this is tied to the manufacturer only)

Difference with Samsung Moment, Motorola Cliq, HTC Imagio (Windows Mobile/non Android)

Personally, Motorola Droid does set the bar for Android phones a notch higher for those that have yet to release an Android. It’ll be hard to compete for another Android which is not 2.0 to go against Motorola Droid.

It looks like this is a game of the fastest wins…

29 Oct 09 Date announced for Motorola Droid from Verizon Wireless

iDon’t have a real keyboard.
iDon’t run simultaneous apps.
iDon’t take night shots.
iDon’t allow open development.
iDon’t customize.
iDon’t run widgets.
iDon’t have interchangeable batteries.
Everything iDont.

DroidDoes.

This is obviously a competition teaser targetted to iPhone and using iDon’t to highlight things that the iPhone doesn’t do.
Ending it with a DroidDoes makes it sounds like it overcomes the shortchange of the iPhone.

The date for the Motorola Droid has been announced, revealed from DroidDoes website and also from their emails if you have submitted your email address earlier on their teaser site.

20 Oct 09 Motorola Droid from Verizon Wireless

Motorola_logo Hello Moto.

Shortly after the announcement of Motorola’s first Android phone – Cliq for US market and Dext for the rest of the world, Verizon Wireless has released teaser to the next Motorola Android, the Motorola Droid.

The Motorola Cliq has yet to even reach production but the next phone is ready to be announced.
This shows how much hype or explosion we are going to expect out of Google’s Android platform.

The teaser ads can be seen on US national tv, and a video supposedly showing the Droid booting up can be seen below.

The rumoured specifications of the Motorola Droid are briefly covered on Brighthand.com.

The ads or teasers link to the official website of Motorola Droid : http://droiddoes.com/

You are supposed to submit your email for early notification of the phone availability on the website.

It is definitely still early to talk about Android 2.0 and probably what could be seen was in the early demonstrations but this Droid is said to be running on Android 2.0. I’m not sure how reliable but it just seems to me that manufacturers are getting even more desperate to show that they will have phones which are much superior than the newer ones, both released or unreleased, and asking the Android fans to wait some more?

So I guess we won’t be seeing much yet eh?

11 Sep 09 Motorola launches first Android – Motorola Cliq

motorola_cliq_logoMotorola announced their first Android phone, Motorola Cliq for the US and will be carried by T-Mobile. Cliq will be available in the 4th quarter this year and will be launched in other countries as Motorola Dext on carriers like Orange, America Movil, and Telefonica.

The news of Motorola joining the ranks of Android manufacturers came in July and the Android developer platform was ready then, so people were essentially interested to know what kind of phone Motorola will come up with, and if it would be as iconic as the Motorola Razr.

During the launch of Motorola Cliq, Motorola’s co-chief executive Sanjay Jha reveals the first Android phone which sports a customized UI named MotoBlur.
I think the MotoBlur software is sleek and it has heavy integration with social networks like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and many more.

Motorola calls Cliq – “The first phone with social skills.”

Watch the video below shared by phonedog.com, demonstrating the Motorola Cliq on MotoBlur.
Notice the contact photo is a twitter avatar picture, I’m guessing it would change whenever new photos are uploaded.

You might also want to check out the live coverage of the announcement by Engadget.

Features-wise, the Cliq is a 3G/HSDPA and WiFi device – not surprising. It is a slide phone with QWERTY keyboard (virtual keyboard as well – capacitive touchscreen) and comes with a 5.0 megapixel camera with auto focus and a 3.5mm audio jack.

motorola_cliq

It supports Geo Tagging and a phone owner could also wipe data from a lost or stolen phone remotely or even find out where the phone is by using the device’s Global Positioning System technology.

No pricing information is immediately available yet, just keep checking out the Motorola Cliq product page.

Something’s blurry in my mind though, why MotoBlur?
Is MotoClear set for something else? :-)

23 Jul 09 Watch Out for Android

android
iPhone, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, Symbian, Palm Pre, had better be watching out for Android.

Android is coming up as a major player in the smartphone among handset makers due to the it being open source and makers can freely (including no licensing fee) modify the code to suit their product.

It is visible that HTC had been the major Android leader and had even customized the Android with HTC Sense UI.

There are approximately 10 manufacturers developing handsets for Android including HTC, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Acer.

Even without an estimated numbers of Android out there, it might just be able to beat the recent iPhones (selling over 5.2 million iPhones during the last quarter) and Palm Pre (fewer than 250,000 units mid-July).

With support from Google (and also its promotional effort to developers – Android Developer Challenge) and an application marketplace, other smartphone players better keep an eye on Android.

01 Jul 09 Motorola joining the ranks of Android manufacturers

Motorola is coming up with Android phones this year and it may well be in the late third quarter of the year.

With Android, Motorola might be making a comeback to the phone industry where it was once famous with MOTO RAZR.

motorola-razr2

The first Android from Motorola was rumoured to be Motorola Calgary.

The news of Motorola Android is very certain as the Motorola has gotten their Android developer platform ready and accessible.
moto_android

What is lacking are only the confirmation on the production phones and release dates.

Having another manufacturer for Android will bring Google one step higher to the mass and Motorola will be having a share out of the current lucrative mobile smartphone market.

motorola-android-leaked

Can the Motorola Android phone be as iconic as the previous RAZR? Time will tell.
