04 Nov 09 Does Droid Does Enough?

You tell me.

This guy had earlier ported the Android emulator to his G1 and demonstrated the features of Android 2.0.
Watch the video below:

I’m slightly amazed by the slider sequence for phone locking. It might be a bit difficult for those who does not own the phone to unlock it.

Motorola Droid is the first Android phone to sport the Android 2.0 software and it does promises a few things that the iPhone does not do.

  • Google search now with voice, enable you to search by speaking to your phone.
  • Different ways to communicate with a contact, call, sms, facebook etc, not particularly new, but convenient.
  • Android Market has changed!
  • Verizon Visual Voicemail, only available for Verizon subscribers and requires monthly subscription.

The following video shows them:

Another review on the Motorola Droid :

Some from the review worthy of highlights:

  • Droid is thinner than Samsung Moment
  • Looks like a modern minimalist, not plasticky
  • Google Maps Navigation is a main attraction
  • Facebook integration to contacts
  • YouTube videos doesn’t go full screen due to larger than usual screen size
  • Camera settings have gone much better, making the camera better, and with flash! (I’m not really sure if this is tied to the manufacturer only)

Difference with Samsung Moment, Motorola Cliq, HTC Imagio (Windows Mobile/non Android)

Personally, Motorola Droid does set the bar for Android phones a notch higher for those that have yet to release an Android. It’ll be hard to compete for another Android which is not 2.0 to go against Motorola Droid.

It looks like this is a game of the fastest wins…

29 Oct 09 Date announced for Motorola Droid from Verizon Wireless

iDon’t have a real keyboard.
iDon’t run simultaneous apps.
iDon’t take night shots.
iDon’t allow open development.
iDon’t customize.
iDon’t run widgets.
iDon’t have interchangeable batteries.
Everything iDont.

DroidDoes.

This is obviously a competition teaser targetted to iPhone and using iDon’t to highlight things that the iPhone doesn’t do.
Ending it with a DroidDoes makes it sounds like it overcomes the shortchange of the iPhone.

20 Oct 09 Motorola Droid from Verizon Wireless

Motorola_logo Hello Moto.

Shortly after the announcement of Motorola’s first Android phone – Cliq for US market and Dext for the rest of the world, Verizon Wireless has released teaser to the next Motorola Android, the Motorola Droid.

The Motorola Cliq has yet to even reach production but the next phone is ready to be announced.
This shows how much hype or explosion we are going to expect out of Google’s Android platform.

The teaser ads can be seen on US national tv, and a video supposedly showing the Droid booting up can be seen below.

The rumoured specifications of the Motorola Droid are briefly covered on Brighthand.com.

The ads or teasers link to the official website of Motorola Droid : http://droiddoes.com/

You are supposed to submit your email for early notification of the phone availability on the website.

It is definitely still early to talk about Android 2.0 and probably what could be seen was in the early demonstrations but this Droid is said to be running on Android 2.0. I’m not sure how reliable but it just seems to me that manufacturers are getting even more desperate to show that they will have phones which are much superior than the newer ones, both released or unreleased, and asking the Android fans to wait some more?

So I guess we won’t be seeing much yet eh?
