31 Jul 09 Official Facebook app for Android coming soon

The official Facebook app for Android is coming soon, reportedly by the end of this week, trailing long after the existence of official Facebook apps for iPhone and BlackBerry.

However, the version for Android is said to be a limited version as compared to full version for other smartphone makes.

This would probably due to the previous not-so-good relationship between Google and Facebook. It was said that the reason is due to Facebook disliking Google, but I wonder why the major social network should like others instead.

Whatever it is, FaceBook probably cannot afford NOT to develop an app for the most promising mobile platform. :-)

23 Jul 09 Watch Out for Android

android
iPhone, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, Symbian, Palm Pre, had better be watching out for Android.

Android is coming up as a major player in the smartphone among handset makers due to the it being open source and makers can freely (including no licensing fee) modify the code to suit their product.

It is visible that HTC had been the major Android leader and had even customized the Android with HTC Sense UI.

There are approximately 10 manufacturers developing handsets for Android including HTC, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Acer.

Even without an estimated numbers of Android out there, it might just be able to beat the recent iPhones (selling over 5.2 million iPhones during the last quarter) and Palm Pre (fewer than 250,000 units mid-July).

With support from Google (and also its promotional effort to developers – Android Developer Challenge) and an application marketplace, other smartphone players better keep an eye on Android.

16 Jul 09 Google Voice coming to Android phones

What is Google Voice?

Google Voice gives you one number for all your phones, voicemail as easy as email, and lots of cool calling features like voicemail transcripts, call screening and blocking, conference calling and more.

It acts as a middle-man or a router, so that your personal mobile number, home, or business numbers will be seen as one Google Voice number to the call recipient.

Google Voice technology was built by Grand Central, a company founded in 2006. It was subsequently acquired by Google in 2007 for $45M in Cash!

Google Voice is now available as Android and BlackBerry application at www.google.com/voice/m. However it is currently available for GrandCentral users only, but will be open to new users soon.
